Why I have chosen Cherry Bomb- The Runaways
Why have I chosen- Cherry Bomb by The Runaways
Released- 1976
Label- Mercury
Written by- Joan Jett and Kim Fowley
Produced by Kim Fowley
This song is powerful song written and sung by The Runaways which was an all female band. The meaning behind the term 'Cherry Bomb' can be used for a woman who is promiscuous or causes trouble by not conforming to the expectations of her parents of society. I think this is an important protest message to the equal treatment and rights of women across the world and that's why I chose this song for my music video. As a young woman I felt it was important to chose a song which I not only like but feel as if I can connect to in some way, which mean I can relate to the song I have chosen.
The lead singer of the band Cherie Currie was only 16 at the time when performing this sing which means that the video is aimed and directed to a demographic of girls around my age and slightly older. Therefore I also want to make the video about young teen girls and share the message that we don't have to fit into the box that society wants us too.
